Forest for Mongolia

Autumn trip of the STREAM project 2023

19. 10. 2023

Our autumn field trip in the STREAM project is behind us. And what did we accomplish?

  • Two tree climbing workshops for local foresters and future forest seed collectors. ????
  • Two workshops focusing on ecology, silviculture and forest tending, forest nurseries, technology, but also the recreational function of forests for foresters and officials from environmental management departments. ????????
  • We trained a total of approximately 50 people from the field as part of the workshops.????
  • Seven events of forest pedagogy for children ???????? from the towns of Bayan-Adarga, Binder, Umnudelger, Yeröö, Bugant, Mandal and Ulaanbaatar, which were attended by approximately 250 children. And lots of adults too.
  • We set up an experiment aimed at stabilizing a sand dune with trees using various soil additives improving the water supply of the trees. ????
  • We planted nearly 1,000 tree seedlings (mainly elm, pine and larch) and did weeding around those planted last year. ????

The STREAM project co-financed by the European Union ???????? and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) ???????? is being implemented by the GIZ and UN FAO. Mendel University in Brno leads a consortium of twelve institutions that participate in the forestry section of the project led by GIZ.
