Forest for Mongolia

Summer trip of the STREAM project 2023

This year's STREAM project summer trip is over! The month in Mongolia passed in no time and in addition to continuing the work started, it also brought several new activities.

  • We started filming a new documentary about forests and forestry in Mongolia. ????
  • We presented our results and experience at the International Conference on Research and Policy Development towards Sustainable Forest Management in Mongolia. ???? ????‍????
  • We included entomology in the lecturing. The importance of biodiversity and insects is often overlooked in forests, but it is becoming more debated in Europe. Therefore, we presented and discussed the latest findings and added a study of local species. ????
  • We presented the results of our work in the field to a delegation from the European Union and other institutions. ????????
  • We continued with the practical education of local university students and scientific cooperation with partners from Mongolia and other institutions, for example from the USA, Slovakia or Romania. ????
  • We summarized the results of our afforestation and other forestry activities from last year. ????
  • We visited and studied the unique dark taiga with rare Siberian fir. ????
  • We contributed to the start of the use of Czech hiking markers system in Mongolia, which we see as an opportunity to further educate society about nature and forests. ????????????
The STREAM project co-financed by the European Union ???????? and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) ???????? is being implemented by the GIZ and UN FAO. Mendel University in Brno leads a consortium of twelve institutions that participate in the forestry section of the project led by GIZ.
