Forest for Mongolia

Expert project

Expert project

Project title: Mongolian forestry in development: advanced expertise in forest planning and management
Project Number: PP-2018-073-SO-31281
Promoter: Forest for Mongolia
Guarantor/Coordinator: Ing. Antonín Kusbach, Ph.D.
Contact: AKusbach@seznam.cz
Date of implementation: 2018–2021
Support provider: the Czech Development Agency

The expert project was aimed at increasing the expertise of experts working in the field of forestry and built on the previous transfer of expertise within the project Development of forests and gene pool of local forest ecotypes. The project aimed at training and collaboration at three levels: 1) improving the educational process and scientific work of academics and students from the Mongolian University of Life Sciences based in Darkhan; 2) supporting related government administration at district (somon) and provincial (ajmag) levels; and 3) supporting the development of the Domogt Shariin Gol Education and Training Centre.

A series of thematic lectures and field trips were conducted as part of the project. The Czech experts' missions in the summer of 2019 and winter of 2021 were pivotal. During the summer field trip in 2019, participants learned how to properly collect scientific data in challenging field conditions, were introduced to the importance of forest and practical examples of identifying basic forest characteristics for sustainable forest management. With the winter outing in 2021, the project symbolically ended at the young pine trees in the Zulzaga site that were planted during the Domogt project.
